A 25-year-old man has appeared in court following rioting in Hull on Saturday.

John Honey, of Park Grove, Hull, appeared before magistrates earlier charged with violent disorder, three counts of robbery, two counts of burglary and criminal damage.

Mr Honey did not enter a plea. He has been remanded into custody and is due to appear at Hull Crown Court on 5 September.

Police officers were attacked as trouble flared in the city centre on Saturday following demonstrations involving anti-immigration protesters.

Cars were damaged, shops looted and fires started.

On Sunday, Humberside Police said 25 people had been arrested and 11 officers injured during the disorder.

Forces around the country have said they are working to identify people who took part in violent disorder in cities and towns in recent days. Follow the latest updates and reaction.
