With the ferry not running, people face a 25-mile (40km) return diversion

Ferry services between Sandbanks and Studland have been halted while the chain ferry is fixed.

The Bournemouth-Swanage Motor Road and Ferry Company said the vessel, called Bramble Bush Bay, needs essential mechanical work.

The ferry crosses the entrance to Poole Harbour between Sandbanks and Shell Bay, saving users a 25-mile (40km) return car journey.

The operator said it hoped it would resume crossings on Saturday from 07:00 BST.

It takes the vessel, which can carry 48 cars, about four minutes to make the crossing.

Brought into service in 1994, Bramble Bush Bay is due to be replaced in 2034.
