Plan for new school and 850-space car park

A new secondary school is in the pipeline for Worcester in response to demand for spaces due to new housing developments, said the council.
If approved, the new school is set to open in September 2028, according to plans submitted by healthcare property firm Prime Plc and Worcestershire County Council.
The application also includes new car parking facilities with 850 spaces planned adjacent to Worcestershire Royal Hospital.
Prime said the multi-storey car park would help with the "ongoing challenges" for staff, patients and visitors.
The council said the application would enable a more "strategic" and comprehensive approach to make best use of the land.
It said: "The need for a new secondary school in Worcester goes hand-in-hand with the approval of large housing developments and also improves choice and access for families.
"The new school will ensure children can access a secondary school place within their local community in a growing city."
Deputy council leader Marcus Hart added: “Submitting the planning application alongside Prime is the next step in ensuring we are able to meet the need for secondary school places in Worcester.
"Working alongside Prime also enables a joined-up approach to making best use of the wider site.”
The car park will aim to ease traffic and congestion issues experienced near Charles Hastings Way and additional school-related traffic on Newtown Road.
Guy Kippen, associate development director at Prime, said: “Demand for parking at Worcestershire Royal Hospital has been an ongoing challenge for staff, patients and visitors to the hospital.
“Through Prime’s previous experience we have identified a solution next to the hospital which improves current congestion issues and increases parking capacity."
More detailed plans for the car park, which is set to be accessed via Nunnery Way, would be submitted in 2025, added Mr Kippen.
