A DJ who confessed to raping a sleeping woman during a YouTube interview has been jailed.

Craig Strachan climbed into the woman’s bed at a house in Edinburgh and touched her body while she was unable to consent. He then raped her when she woke up.

The 33-year-old, from Edinburgh, had denied the offence but was found guilty after a trial at the High Court in Livingston.

Strachan was sentenced to six years in prison over the 2013 attack.

He was also added to the sex offenders’ register indefinitely and given a non-harassment order preventing him from contacting or attempting to contact the woman involved for 20 years.

Strachan was interviewed for a YouTube channel in 2022.

During the video, he admitted raping the woman when he was aged 21.

He was later arrested and charged with the offence, but denied it during an initial hearing.

Strachan was later found guilty at a trial in July.

He appeared via video link for a sentencing hearing at the High Court in Stirling.

Katrina Parkes, procurator fiscal for High Court sexual offending, described Strachan as a “predatory individual”.

She said: “This type of offending has no place in Scotland and prosecutors within COPFS are committed to pursuing justice for victims of such crimes.

“I would encourage all victims or witnesses of similar offending to come forward, report their experiences and seek support.

“You will be taken seriously, listened to, and we will use all the tools available to us to pursue justice.”
