BBC radio presenter Rylan Clark is due to co-host an event marking Liberation Day in Guernsey.

The presenter, known for his work on Strictly Come Dancing, Big Brother and BBC Radio 2, will co-host the island's Hangar Ball and Liberation Tea Dance, alongside broadcaster, author and barrister, Rob Rinder.

The 1940s themed events hosted by Specsavers, are held annually on 8 May to mark the day Guernsey was liberated from German Occupation during World War Two.

Specsavers founder, Dame Mary Perkins, said she was "delighted" both Clark and Rinder would host the events which marked the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day.

"Rob has proved incredibly popular in previous years, and I know that he has fallen in love with the island and its people and thoroughly enjoys his time here," said Dame Mary.

She added: "Rob is passionate about history, especially in connection to World War Two and even spent some of his time in Alderney during his visit last year.

"This gives him an added empathy for evacuees and those who served during the war."

'Remember loved ones'

Both events are being held at the Beau Sejour Leisure Centre.

The Liberation Tea Dance will take place between 13:30 -16:00 BST and the Hangar Ball between 19:30 - 00:00.

The Hangar Ball is described by organisers as "an opportunity to remember loved ones lost, reminisce and celebrate freedom".

Specsavers' was founded in Guernsey in 1984.
