Plans for new sports pitches and pavilion approved
- Published
Plans for a new sports pavilion along with artificial and grass football pitches have been given the green light.
The proposals, external, for land opposite Blackbird Close in Newdale, Telford, also include access improvements for vehicle and cycle parking, landscaping and other associated works.
The scheme had been met with a mixed response, with residents sharing noise and traffic concerns, loss of privacy, and that the building could have an impact on property value in the area.
Telford and Wrekin Council’s planning committee granted permission for the scheme at a meeting on Wednesday.
Members of the committee said that while they appreciated there were traffic concerns, they were happy to support the scheme.
The planned new pavilion also had support from organisations such as Sport England, Healthy Spaces, and Lawley and Overdale Parish Council, which added it was the most valuable asset to both the local community and borough.
“It’s brilliant we have these facilities in the borough and Telford & Wrekin Council encourage the development,” said councillor, Giles Luter.
“It’s brilliant children have access to these and I fully support it.”
Councillor Angela McClements added the new pitches would benefit both grassroots and competitive football, as well as local sports clubs.
Work was expected to start on the site in 2025, with completion in 2026, the local authority said., external
