Third arrest after robberies on popular route

Three teenagers have been arrested and released on bail after the robberies in Wombourne, police said

A third teenager has been arrested after a series of robberies in which police say people using a well-known walking and cycling route were targeted.

The incidents took place in Wombourne between Saturday 3 May and Tuesday, with two mobiles and three bikes stolen.

Two teenage boys from Wolverhampton were arrested on suspicion of robbery on Wednesday.

A 16-year-old boy, also from Wolverhampton, was then arrested late on Thursday on suspicion of robbery and all three have been questioned and released on bail, Staffordshire Police said.

The force said offenders had been using the former Wombourne branch railway, a well-known cycling and walking route, to target people and steal phones and bikes.

Some of the stolen property has been recovered following recent searches, the a spokesperson added.
