Man charged over grandad's murder appears in court

A man charged with the murder of a 71-year-old grandfather has appeared in court.

Northamptonshire Police said it was called to a flat in Leatherland Court, Kettering, on Saturday and found John Gerard Boyle with fatal injuries.

John Mills, 45, of Marriott Street, Northampton, appeared at Northampton Crown Court on Friday via video link from HMP Peterborough.

He has not yet entered a plea for the murder charge, and for an additional charge of theft of a vehicle.

The court agreed a case management hearing would take place on 13 February 2026, with a trial provisionally set to take place from 5 May.

Mr Boyle was a father of six and a grandfather of 15.
