A 78-year-old man, who was charged with murder after a woman's body was found at a house, has died in custody.

Surendra Patel was arrested in October after the woman, who was in her 70s, was discovered at the property in Aqua Place, Rugby, Warwickshire.

The force said Mr Patel, also of Aqua Place, died in hospital while being held at HMP Hewell in Redditch on 31 October.

A Prison Service spokesperson said: “As with all deaths in custody, the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will investigate.”

Officers from Warwickshire Police were called to the property at about 09:40 BST, on 8 October.
