Police are appealing for information four months after a man died when his car was “deliberately rammed off the road”.

Mackenzie Ball, 20, died at the scene of the crash near Rotherham on 2 June. South Yorkshire Police launched a murder investigation and a number of arrests were made but no one has been charged.

Det Insp Matt Bolger said he believed the incident was a “targeted attack”.

He added: “We believe the car Mackenzie was travelling in was deliberately rammed off the road, and we believe there are people out there who know why this happened.”

The collision was between a silver Land Rover Discovery and a silver Subaru Forester in Wickersley, at the junction of Morthen Road and Moat Lane.

Both vehicles left the road and the driver and three passengers of the Subaru fled the scene on foot. Mr Ball was a passenger in the Land Rover.

Det Insp Bolger said: "At the centre of all of this is a young man who had his whole life ahead of him. His family deserve answers - and that is why I am directly appealing to anyone who has information which could help our investigation to get in touch with us.”

Police made a number of arrests, including that of a 21-year-old man who was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

All have since been released on bail.

At the time of his death, Mr Ball's parents said: “Our family are absolutely devastated at the loss of our son Mac. He has been taken from us too soon.

"If anyone has any information about the incident, we ask that they contact the police. We ask that we may be given some privacy in which to grieve at this time.”
