A man has died after being hit by a car on the M2 near Rochester.

Kent Police were called at 18:40 BST after reports that a person had been hit by a car on the coastbound carriageway between junctions one and two.

The man, in his 30s, died at the scene and his next of kin have been informed.

His death is not being treated as suspicious and a report is being prepared for the coroner, say officers.

Det Sgt Jamie Webb said: "While we are treating the death as non-suspicious, officers are appealing to any witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage along the M2 or the surrounding roads at the time to contact us so that we can understand the full circumstances."

The road was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident and re-opened at 23:50.
