The rider, a man in his 50s, was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge with serious injuries, where he remained in a critical but stable condition.

The driver of the Tesla, a 48-year-old woman, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving.

Sgt Mark Atkins, from Cambridgeshire Police, said: "We are appealing for witnesses to the collision or anyone who saw either vehicle in the moments leading up to it.

"We would also like to thank anyone who was in the area around the time of the collision for their patience in the congestion that followed."
