Developers want to create more than 2,000 new homes over about 15 years on land next to Tollerton Airfield

Residents are being asked to have their say on a planning application for new homes next to an airfield.

Developers want to build about 2,500 new homes, a primary school, local centre and supporting infrastructure on land east of Gamston and north of Tollerton, next to Tollerton Airfield, in Nottinghamshire.

Proposals for the phased development were first submitted in December 2020, but Rushcliffe Borough Council said the applicants had submitted additional information.

Residents will have up to 31 January to share their views on the plan.

The authority did not confirm what additional information was submitted but according to the council's planning website, earlier in December, the applicants submitted a new planning statement, highways reports and other documents.

The application is for outline planning permission for the phased development of land around the airfield and is separate from another proposed development on the airfield, by developer Vistry Homes, which has prompted a petition against it.

Roger Upton, the council's cabinet portfolio holder for planning and housing, said the authority "cannot determine any application" for the site until the masterplan was in place.

Hundreds of objections

The council added: "Planning officers are working positively with the consortium of landowners and developers for the development of this masterplan to ensure all public and community infrastructure is planned properly and to the highest standards, taking account of the needs of the new and existing communities."

Planning documents say the proposed development would offer a "wide range of new homes" to meet local housing need.

A planning statement added it would create jobs throughout the duration of the build "which could be more than 15 years".

According to the council's planning website, the proposal has had 554 public comments since it was first submitted in 2020, with 527 of those being objections.
