Call for marshals to cover contingency sessions

Almost 580 volunteers are needed to marshal the Mountain Course

Volunteers have been urged to sign on to marshal for the remaining Classic TT contingency sessions as unsettled weather threatens the scheduled race programme.
Racing is currently scheduled during the daytime on Wednesday and Friday, but further sessions during the evenings and on Thursday could be used if required.
The Isle of Man TT Marshals said if extra periods of cover were needed due to rain delays more volunteers would be needed for meetings "to safely go ahead".
Andy Williams from the group said marshals had been "letting us know they can help" but "we still need more to come forward".
Almost 580 marshals, across more than 200 points, are needed to man the 37.7-mile (61km) Mountain Course for each race session.
Classic TT brand, which sees a host of TT stars take to the course on vintage machines, has been brought back to run parallel to the Manx Grand Prix (MGP) for the first time since 2019.
First introduced in 2013, it was put on hold due to border closures during the pandemic and when racing returned in 2022 the classic classes were run under the MGP banner in a truncated nine-day event.

Classic TT racing is scheduled for Wednesday and Friday
The opening race of the Classic TT had been brought forward to Monday due to the unsettled weather forecast for later in the week, but the session was red-flagged following a crash.
Mr Williams said it was a "challenge" to secure numbers for each meeting as it was "such a huge section of road to cover".
But the organisation needed to be "flexible to respond to whatever the challenges of the weather or the event throws at us".
He said they group had been reviewing the numbers of volunteers available in case they were needed to support extra sessions for the remainder of race week due to the weather.
Those available to marshal have been asked to sign up as soon as possible to to make sure the minimum required levels have been met, with the possibility of some being asked to move to new spots to enable "full coverage" of the course.
Volunteers can sign on online or by visiting the team based at the Grandstand in Douglas.
