A man is in a potentially life-threatening condition following a serious collision.

Avon and Somerset Police were called to Thurlbear Road, near Taunton, just before 13:20 BST on Thursday.

A silver Ford Fiesta travelling towards Taunton crashed with a dark Volkswagen Tiguan, driving in the opposite direction, police said.

The road remains closed between the junction with Broughton Lane, at Orchard Barns, and Netherclay Lane, while investigations and vehicle recovery takes place.

The man driving the Fiesta was airlifted to hospital and the woman driving the Tiguan was driven to hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing, police said.

Both their families are aware, officers added.

Anybody who witnessed the collision or has dash cam footage is asked to contact the force.
