A dispersal order has been issued at a motorway service station to clamp down on anti-social driving at a planned car meet.

Surrey Police said the order at Cobham Services near the M25 was "not about spoiling the fun of car enthusiasts" but would allow officers to order groups to leave the area if they were committing an offence.

The order comes in response to a planned event at the service station and Brooklands Industrial Park in Weybridge on Saturday.

Insp Chris Thoday, borough commander for Elmbridge, said the force will use its powers to seize vehicles involved in anti-social behaviour, adding: "We will deal with any offences relating to anti-social behaviour robustly."

He added: "This dispersal order is not about spoiling the fun of car enthusiasts, but ensuring we minimise the impact of anti-social driving on residents following previous gatherings."

A dispersal order allows police officers to order groups of people to leave the area if they are committing, or are likely to commit, a criminal offence.

Similar dispersal orders were used in Cobham and across Surrey in March for a similar event.

The order will run from 15:00 BST on Saturday to 07:00 on Sunday.
