Charity supports prisoners restoring town seating

Prisoners are working on new benches in St Peter Port
- Published
Inmates at Guernsey Prison have been putting their skills to good use, by making benches for people to relax in St Peter Port.
Creative Learning in Prison, a charity that encourages those inside the prison to work and gain qualifications, is also supporting workshops for inmates to restore some of town's old street furniture.
Prison governor John de Carteret said he hoped to grow the scheme in the future.
"For the most part, they're just just pleased that they've got something purposeful to do," he said. "Some of them take a lot of positives away from the fact that what they are doing is well received in the community."
