Fire crews have been tackling a blaze at a derelict mill that saw a large plume of black smoke rise above Halifax.

The fire broke out just before 19:00 BST on Saturday at the building in Cinderhill Works in the Siddal area.

West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service (WYFRS) said 11 crews were sent to the scene, using large jets and an aerial appliance to put out the fire.

The service said its control room received 80 calls within five minutes when the smoke was first seen.

The building was said to be about 65ft x 98ft (20m x 30m) in size, and half of it was engulfed in flames.

WYFRS said the incident concluded at 01:30 BST on Sunday and thanked members of the public who respected the cordon and followed safety advice to keep doors and windows shut.
