A convicted sex offender has been jailed for raping a 12-year-old girl in a park.

Hamza Khan met his victim as she walked near Crown Island in Wollaton, Nottingham, on 18 May last year.

After leading her into a park in Aspley, he subjected her to what Nottinghamshire Police described as a "prolonged" sex attack.

On Friday, Khan, 29, was jailed for nine years and three months at Nottingham Crown Court.

Khan had given the victim his phone number before the attack, while CCTV footage linked him and his bicycle to the scene.

And his victim identified him during a police ID procedure.

'Vulnerable child'

Khan, of Hawton Crescent in Wollaton, gave no comment answers to detectives and only later pleaded guilty to rape at court.

As well as his jail sentence, Khan was made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order for the next 15 years.

He will also remain on the sex offenders register for life.

Det Con Jason Jenkins said Khan, who had a previous conviction for sexual assault, was "predatory" and targeted a "vulnerable child in the most appalling way imaginable".

He said: "My thoughts remain with the victim in this case who must now live with the memory of what this man did to her."
