Police were called to reports the Skoda Octavia had left the A59, Harrogate to York road, between Moor Monkton and Green Hammerton at about 22:30 GMT on Monday.

The driver, who has yet to be named, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His passenger, a 19-year-old woman, remains in a serious condition in hospital, a North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said.

They added the man's family were being supported by specially trained officers.
