Sussex Police said officers would remain in the area for the "foreseeable future" to reassure the public and while their enquiries continued.

District Supt Imran Asghar said: “We acknowledge the impact this has had on the local community, however I’d like to reassure the community that we are treating it as an isolated incident."

He said there was no threat to the wider public and urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

Crews and six fire engines from Crawley, Horsham, Storrington, Worthing and East Grinstead worked throughout Saturday afternoon and evening to bring the flames under control.
