Complications meant extra equipment was needed to address drainage problems that had allowed water to seep under the road

Road resurfacing works on a key route through Coventry look set to overrun by nearly a month, leaving some residents unable to get on to their drives.

The scheme, on Mantila Drive, Stivichall, should have been completed at the start of September, but complications with drainage problems has resulted in delays.

The city council said the works had been "problematic" and that the team were "working really hard to resolve all the problems with the foundations of the road".

One resident, Bob Foster, 82, has had to park his car elsewhere on the estate and said he had struggled with his shopping bags, due to no access to his own drive.

The works have also forced buses to be redirected and left some cars covered in dust.

"It started at the beginning of August and I have had disruption all this time," Mr Foster said.

"I had a week and a half when I couldn't get the car on the drive. One day I had to leave it in the close behind here and struggled with two bags and my stick."

Coventry councillor John Blundell said he had tried to arrange for an officer from the local authority to speak to residents to outline the issues around the road but was told no-one was available.

"It is disappointing that something as major as this has not been considered important enough to send an officer down to explain what's going on to 25-30 people," he said.

"They are having to park their cars quite a distance away and with the bus route being diverted, some quite elderly residents are having to walk a distance to the bus stop."
