A woman who was raped by a man supposedly acting as a good Samaritan on a night out says that she is a "shadow of her former self".

Martin Glover, of Clarendon Road West in Morecambe, has been jailed for seven-and-a-half years for the rape of a woman he met on a night out in April 2023.

Preston Crown Court heard how the 39-year-old had taken advantage of his victim, offering her a place to stay before carrying out the attack.

In a statement the victim, who is in her 30s, said that Glover had "stolen her dignity" and that she has suffered from anxiety and "sleepless nights" since the incident.

Det Con Kirsten Bell, of Lancaster CID, said: "First and foremost I would like to praise the victim for having the courage to support this prosecution – that cannot have been easy, but it would not have been possible to reach this conclusion without her.

"Glover took advantage of and preyed on this vulnerable woman for his own sexual gratification, and I am pleased that other women are now safe from his offending for some time."

Det Con Bell added that she hopes the case gives others the 'strength to come forward' to report similar crimes and that all investigations will be carried out 'sensitively and professionally'.

Glover originally pleaded not guilty to the rape charge, but changed his plea in June.
