A man who created a "kill list" while drawing up a plot to torture and murder people at a pub has been jailed for two years and six months.

Jacob Power twice broke into The White Hart Pub in Hamstead Marshall, Berkshire, in November 2024, stealing room keys and a CCTV recording box.

In February, police carrying out a welfare check found weapons and extensive notes at his home in Ash Tree Grove in the village.

The 22-year-old previously pleaded guilty at Reading Crown Court to four counts of burglary, three counts of criminal damage, attempted burglary and possession of cannabis.

Thames Valley Police said Power was referred to mental health services by his GP after having increasing thoughts of wanting to torture and murder people.

He told authorities these were just thoughts and never had any plan to carry them out, police added.

At the same time, he made detailed notes, including what he called a "kill list", acquired weapons and dug graves in woodland behind his home, detectives said.

On 28 November 2024, following the two previous burglaries, Power attempted to gain entry to the flat above the pub but was unable to get in.

Police visited him on 11 February 2025 after mental health professionals were unable to contact him.

They found Power's extensive notes and weapons including knives, air pistols, ammunition and a Samurai sword.

Other items included masks, duct tape, ropes, chains and cleaning products.

Investigating officer Det Con Isabelle Denis previously said it was "extremely fortunate" the occupants of the pub were not home when Power broke in.

She added: "Knowing what we found in his bedroom, Power's behaviour is disturbing so I am pleased he has been sentenced following our investigation.

"We are resolute in our commitment to protecting the public and will always look to bring offenders like Power to justice."
