The family of a two-year-old who was allegedly murdered have released a tribute saying "fly high little girl".
Isabelle Rose Welsh died in hospital following an incident in Hartington Close, Thornaby, Stockton-on-Tees, on 13 September, police said.
Harrison Simpson, 21, and Alexandra Walker, 25, both of Hartington Close are charged with murder, and Mr Simpson is also charged with rape.
They were remanded in custody following an appearance at Teesside Crown Court via videolink last week, and both are due in court next month for a plea and trial preparation hearing.
Both defendants, who are also accused of causing or allowing the death of a child, spoke only to confirm their names, addresses and dates of birth.
In a tribute released through Cleveland Police, the youngster's family said: "Rest in peace Isabelle, fly high little girl. Forever two."
They are being supported by specialist police officers.
