Renovation plan approved for fire-damaged building

Plans to refurbish a dilapidated building in Bradford have been approved after the developer scaled down the scheme.
The Jamali Buildings site on Young Street was formerly the home of Maharaja Textiles, but has been empty for more than a decade after being damaged in a fire.
Last year, a planning application to add another floor to the building and refurbish it was refused.
Amended plans have now been approved, with the new first floor dropped from the project.
Much of the building is without a roof, with bricked-up or shuttered windows and openings and surrounding land strewn with waste and fly-tipping, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
The building would be brought back into use for an industrial purpose and would not be open to the public, the application from a Mr Omer said.
Council planning officers said: "The existing building appears not to be in use at the present time and is showing signs of deterioration and neglect.
"The building is largely a shell with the roof missing."
Their report said the scheme would remove "unsightly" roller shutter doors and add metal sheet roofing and sapphire blue cladding on the walls, which would be a "visual improvement".
