An eight-year-old who fled the war in Ukraine two years ago to come to the UK has won a prestigious photography prize.

Ivan, who now lives in Brighton with his mother, came first in the under-10 category in the South Downs National Park youth photography competition.

His image of a blanket of tulips at Arundel Castle particularly impressed the judges.

Ivan's mother Kateryna said he is a "very creative boy" who "likes to photograph nature and loves flowers".

She added: “We arrived in England after the start of the war in Ukraine, but my husband remains in Ukraine.

"The children are very sad and worried about their father.

"I try to give them a full childhood, where there is beauty and peace.”
