Two men robbed a man at gunpoint before targeting the victim's mother and trying to steal her necklace, a court has heard.

Sheffield Crown Court was told Connor Delmar, 21 and Reegan Vickers, 20, committed a string of violent robberies in Doncaster in November.

Delmar, of Aldesworth Road, Cantley, and Vickers, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to three counts of robbery, one count of attempted robbery, possession of a knife or blade and possession of a firearm.

On Tuesday, Delmar was jailed for six years and eight months, while Vickers will serve the same term at a young offender institution.

'Wave of terror'

Delmar and Vickers had also been charged with kidnap, robbery and four counts of possession of a firearm.

They both denied the offences but the counts were ordered to remain on file, South Yorkshire Police said.

The court heard how on 28 November, the balaclava-wearing duo pointed a gun at a man's head, stole a gold necklace and attempted to take another before fleeing the scene.

They then went on to steal a man's Vauxhall Corsa in Denaby Main, Doncaster.

Police said the stolen vehicle was traced to the A18 near Doncaster Racecourse where Delmar was arrested.

During a search of the car, officers found an 18in (45cm) machete and a black handgun.

Vickers, who had been dropped off by Delmar as they fled, later handed himself in at a police station in Doncaster.

Det Sgt Phil Muggeridge, of Doncaster CID, said: "Delmar and Vickers' horrific crime spree saw them wield dangerous and lethal weapons and leave a wave of terror in their wake.

"There is no doubt in my mind that Doncaster is a safer place now that Delmar and Vickers are behind bars, and I hope this sentence allows the victims of their awful crimes to move on with their lives after what must have been an incredibly frightening experience."
