Man who made threats with meat cleaver jailed

A man who threatened shopkeepers with a meat cleaver in Grimsby has been jailed.

Joe Page, 34, of St Michaels Road in Grimsby, entered a shop in Laceby Road and made the threats on 22 October 2023.

He pleaded guilty to robbery and possession of a bladed article On 20 March.

He was sentenced to nine years at Grimsby Crown Court on 24 May.

At around 19:30 BST on 22 October, Page entered the shop and began to empty cash from tills into his bag.

A member of staff managed to tackle and disarm him before he fled the scene empty handed.

Humberside Police said officers found that Page had also threatened people with a meat cleaver outside another shop, also in Laceby Road, two days before the theft.
