Motorists faced delays on the A27 in East Sussex after a crash involving five vehicles.
Emergency services have been at the scene since about 08:30 GMT on Wednesday, Sussex Police said.

The road between Brighton and Devil’s Dyke, eastbound, was closed for a time, before one lane reopened.
Police said on Wednesday morning that motorists should avoid the area or find alternative routes.
