Day of high demand for ambulance service

One of the incidents involved a collision in St Peter's on Friday

There was a "period of high demand" for Guernsey's ambulance service on Friday, the emergency service said.

It said it also received an "extreme" amount of calls in the space of an hour.

The ambulance service said its entire frontline fleet was sent out, with a back-up St John Ambulance charity vehicle also put into operation.

During the day, staff were sent to a collision in St Peter's which involved two cars, where three people were taken to hospital.

Additional staff were also called into work and senior officers were redeployed to frontline clinical duties to respond to incidents.

Ambulance and rescue CEO and on-call senior duty officer Mark Mapp said the team had "well-rehearsed emergency preparedness, response and resilience plans for events like this".
