A 20-year-old man has been jailed after driving at speeds of over 100mph (160km/h) in parts of Hull and East Yorkshire.

At about 15:00 GMT on 28 February, police were driving behind a BMW 1 Series on the A1079 near Newbald when they requested the vehicle to stop.

The driver, Liam Slade, refused to do so and instead drove at speeds in excess of 100mph from Newbald to Bricknell Avenue in Hull where the vehicle eventually came to a stop.

Slade was sentenced to one year and two months in prison and disqualified from driving for 43 months at Hull Crown Court.

When the vehicle stopped, a number of men got out and ran away from officers.

Five men were arrested a short time later and Slade was identified as the driver.

He was convicted of dangerous driving, possession of a bladed article and driving without insurance.

Det Con Daniel Radford of Humberside Police said: "I hope this sends a clear message to others, if you put the lives of others at risk through dangerous driving, we will catch up with you and we will put you before the courts."
