Funeral for boy, 8, killed while riding scooter

The funeral has taken place for a boy who died after being hit by a car while riding a small scooter.

Lennix Sutcliffe was near his home in Woodland View in Dilton Marsh, Wiltshire, when he was fatally struck by a motorist on 14 April.

Starting from the family's home, the funeral procession moved along the village's High Street before arriving at Holy Trinity Church for the service.

Reverend Caroline Husband, who conducted the service, said: "This is something that only comes in our worst nightmares."

"It's desperately sad. It's not a day any of us want to come together for."

She added: "The family are devastated and the whole community is devastated."

Members of the community came out to pay their respects as the hearse, which included a floral arrangement that read 'brother', was lead by bikers, some wearing Pokémon-themed outfits.

In a tribute after his death, his parents, Jackie and Chris, said: "He loved Pokémon and his favourite character was Charizard."

They also described him as "a happy-go-lucky child who was loved by everyone and who loved everyone".

"He simply loved life, and was the light of our small village," they added.

A man in his 30s has since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving in connection with the incident.

He has since been released under investigation.
