Two women have been taken to hospital, one with serious injuries, after a crash on a major road in West Sussex.

South East Coast Ambulance Service (Secamb) was called to reports of a "serious" crash on the A27 westbound at Angmering at about 11:20 BST on Tuesday.

Ambulance crews treated two women at the scene before transporting them to hospital for further assessment.

Sussex Police has confirmed that the driver sustained serious injuries, while the passenger sustained minor injuries.

One was taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, with the other sent to Worthing Hospital.

The A27 was closed westbound between the A280 near Clapham and the A284 Crossbush following the crash, but National Highways said it had now reopened.
