Man jailed for 'horrific attack' on partner

Police said Liam Hardy was a "violent individual"

A man who left his partner with a bleed on the brain has been jailed for 12 years.

Liam Hardy, 37 and from Durham, attacked the woman while they were visiting a caravan park in Penrith in January last year, Cumbria Police said.

He was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and affray by jurors at Carlisle Crown Court.

Det Con Stephen Knight said Hardy was a "violent individual" and praised the victim for speaking up.

The court was told Hardy headbutted his partner, threw a coffee table and punched her after an argument on 27 January last year.

He also made threats to assault people at a neighbouring lodge who had contacted the police.

Officers arrived as Hardy, of Dene Park in Durham, was trying to leave the scene.

'Violent and traumatising'

The victim spent 11 days in hospital with a bleed on the brain and also had to be treated for a broken nose and finger, police said.

Det Con Knight said: "This was an extremely violent and traumatising experience for the victim leaving her covered in blood and requiring surgery due to her life changing injuries.

"Hardy is a violent individual and is rightly now in prison for this horrific attack."

Significant damage was also caused to the holiday lodge, which Hardy had previously admitted doing.
