Girl, 4, dies after being hit by minibus

A four-year-old girl has died after being hit by a minibus.

She was struck by the vehicle at the junction of Goldsmid Road and Russell Street in Reading on Monday morning.

Thames Valley Police said the girl suffered serious injuries and later died in hospital.

The driver of the red Ford Transit Minibus remained at the scene of the crash, which happened between 08:15 and 08:30 BST, and police said no one had been arrested.

Det Insp Justin Thomas said: “A young child was very sadly killed as a result of this collision. My thoughts are with the family and everyone affected.

“An investigation is under way and I am appealing to anybody who was in the local area at the time of the collision to check any dashcam footage in case it has captured something that may help the investigation."

He added that any digital evidence could be submitted directly to the force's website, external.

The girl’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
