A major route is partially closed after a crash led to cooking oil being spilt across the carriageway.

A van and trailer crossed the central reservation and overturned on the A27 eastbound between Emsworth and Chichester at about 04:40 BST, police said.

The eastbound carriageway is closed, together with one westbound lane.

The closures are likely to last through the evening and into the night, National Highways said.

Hampshire and Isle of Constabulary said no-one had been injured and its officers had left the scene.

Eastbound traffic is being diverted from the Emsworth Interchange along the A259 to rejoin the A27 at the Fishbourne roundabout.

Police said motorists should allow extra time for their journeys.
