Detectives have launched a murder investigation after a 28-year-old man was killed in a collision.
Michael Ashton was a pedestrian when he was struck by a car in Rosecroft Road in Langdon Hills, shortly before midnight on 26 September. He died from his injuries on 4 October.
His family said he was "the most hard-working, fun, loving and likeable person that anyone could wish to meet."
Essex Police said Hayadulla Turkmani, 52, of Langdale Gardens, Hornchurch, east London, had been charged with murder and was due in court on Friday.
Mr Ashton lived in Langdon Hills, near Basildon, and worked at the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Council.
"He was dearly loved by his family, his girlfriend, and the endless list of friends he had," his family said, in a tribute issued through the police.
"Michael had the most beautiful aura and lit up every room he entered with his handsome looks, his smile, and his warm personality.
"He was loved by everyone and had such a kind soul — he didn't have a bad bone in his body."
Officers arrested a man at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder.
Following Mr Ashton's death, Mr Turkmani was then charged with murder on Thursday.
Essex Police said Mr Turkmani was remanded in custody ahead of his appearance at Southend Magistrates' Court.
