A Guernsey homeless charity has asked people to donate waterproof and warm clothing as colder and wetter weather approaches.

Guernsey Welfare Service said the items were helpful to keep people dry at both day and night.

Sue Le Friec, manager at the charity, said they were seeing an increase in the number of people finding themselves homeless.

She appealed for items including hats, gloves, scarves and hand warmers.

Support needed

The States of Guernsey estimated in 2023 more than 1,000 men, women and children were "insecurely housed" - an increase of about 50% since 2016.

Ms Le Friec said: "We are supporting more people with our offer of shower and laundry facilities, together with our offer of simple food.

"As more people find themselves sleeping without shelter, waterproof items are helpful in keeping people dry both day and night, any support people can give with items from our wish list would be appreciated."

Other items needed included deodorant, fleece-lined waterproof trousers, male underwear, large boxes of laundry powder and small torches and batteries.
