A cat was left with "numerous" shotgun pellets in its body after being hit by a suspected blast from a weapon, police have said.

The incident happened overnight on 17 August into 18 August near Cropton, Pickering, a spokesperson for the North Yorkshire force said.

The pellets, believed to be from a shotgun cartridge, were found by a vet. The animal is now recovering at home with its owner.

Officers asked anyone with information about the incident to get in touch.
