Driver injured after crashing into petrol pump

A driver was seriously injured when his car crashed into a petrol pump at a filling station, which then caught fire.

Northamptonshire Police said the collision happened at 02:00 GMT on Sunday at a BP garage on the A45 near Wellingborough.

It is not known why the red Renault Clio entered the forecourt, the force said.

The 38-year-old male driver was taken to University Hospital Coventry for treatment. Officers have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
