'Police officers on night out grabbed woman's arm'
- Published
Two police officers are facing a misconduct hearing over allegations they took hold of a woman and threatened to arrest her while they were on a night out.
A report prepared for the hearing said it happened when off duty PC Adam Ellingford and Special Constable John Holden, both based in Shrewsbury, were out in October 2022.
The papers said they decided to restrain the woman while they were attempting to help a vomiting former colleague.
The four-day hearing is due to begin in Telford on 28 May.
The incident is alleged to have happened outside Albert’s Shed bar in Shrewsbury.
The misconduct papers said a woman approached PC Ellingford while he was helping his former colleague and suggested he should "be put in the recovery position".
The documents said their response was to tell her they were off-duty officers and told her to leave.
A "heated conversation" followed, the report said, and resulted in PC Ellingford taking hold of her arm and telling her she was being arrested for a Section Five Public Order offence.
Mr Holden also took hold of one of the woman's arms, it said.
The two police officers were then led away by security officers at the music venue.
Both Mr Holden and PC Ellingford face allegations that their conduct amounted to breaches of the Standards of Professional Behaviour, in respect of authority, respect and courtesy; orders and instructions; and discreditable conduct.
