Firefighters battle blaze at recycling plant

Firefighters are battling a blaze at a recycling plant, with a main road closed and nearby residents being urged to keep their doors and windows closed.

Fifteen fire crews were in attendance at the site, on Pontardawe Road, Pontardawe, Neath Port Talbot on Monday evening.

The alarm was raised shortly before 15:00 GMT on Monday, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said, with the response ongoing.

The A474 road was closed in both directions between Rhyd Y Fro and Cwm Gors and South Wales Police said it was expected to be remain closed for some time with travel delays likely in the area.

Crews used eleven water ladders, fire water bowsers, a command unit and an aerial appliance.

Local residents were advised to keep doors and windows closed and the fire service urged people to avoid the area and find alternative travel routes.
