Plans for a £1.3m library improvement will go on display later this month.

Staffordshire County Council plans to redesign the ground floor of the building in Burton upon Trent, as well as create a 30-seat mini-theatre and an area for children.

It said it wanted the library to be "flexible and multi-use".

The local authority also promised to use sustainable or recycled materials where possible, including reused or recycled furniture.

A series of drop-in events to explain the plans are due to take place at the library and will begin next Wednesday.

The council was able to get £265,000 from the government’s Libraries Improvement Fund to help it pay for the work.

The redevelopment follows similar investment at libraries in Lichfield, Tamworth, Stafford and Newcastle-under-Lyme.

The councillor responsible for communities and culture, Victoria Wilson, said the drop-in events would allow the local authority to get feedback.

She said she wanted to "reflect the wishes of the community and have worked these into the overall plans".
