Rock music fans have been praised for donating a record sum of money to a charity fund.

They raised more than £6,000 at the annual Mayor's Fest in Wolverhampton.

The festival supports local charities chosen by the city's mayor and was headlined by rockers Terrorvision and White Tyger.

Mayor Councillor Mike Hardacre described the donation as an "incredible amount of money" that will make a massive difference to three causes.

The organisations that will receive funds include animal rescue group Wings and Paws, domestic abuse charity The Haven and Give Us A Break, that impacts young people with disabilities.

Mayor's Fest, which returned for its ninth year and is completely run by volunteers, has raised more than £30,000 since it was founded.

Co founder Doddy White said the festival had evolved from a one-day event with six bands to a weekend festival with 36 acts.

"It was important to us that local bands were given the chance to play in their hometown and bring focus to Wolverhampton and surrounding areas," he added.
