Wyre Forest District Council is putting forward proposals for an indoor market hall on Bridge Street

Plans to build a market hall on the site of a former temporary car park are being considered by Wyre Forest District Council.

The proposal forms part of a redevelopment of Bridge Street in Stourport-on-Severn.

Councillor Dan Morehead said a new single-storey flexible market hall would feature "lots of natural light, with high-end finishes, and a view over the historic basins".

He added: "This proposed development presents a great opportunity for artisan food and drink makers to contribute to an exciting new destination venue for residents and visitors to enjoy."

Morehead, the cabinet member for economic regeneration and planning, said the scheme would enhance the town's "unique" canal-basin setting.

Its overall aim is to revitalise the area, linking it to the town centre, while attracting visitors and creating new jobs.

The proposed development would be funded and progressed by the council and is one of three major capital projects being put forward by its cabinet, to be discussed on 11 November, external.

Another proposal in the authority's medium-term financial strategy report is for Bewdley Museum building improvements, which were granted planning permission last month.

In addition, the council wants to create 150 new homes with the Lion Fields development in Kidderminster town centre.
