Businesses are being offered help to reduce their environmental impact

Businesses in the South Hams are being offered free specialist advice to help them reduce their carbon footprint.

The decarbonisation plans are being provided by the charity Libraries Unlimited, with funding from South Hams District Council (SHDC).

The council said it hoped the scheme would allow firms to identify a range of actions to improve their environmental approach.

Businesses that take part can then apply for Rural England Prosperity Fund grants of up to £10,000, to help put their plans into action.

Councillor John McKay, SHDC's executive member for climate change and biodiversity, said: “Business activity can have a huge impact on the environment that we may not even realise.

"This work raising awareness and supporting businesses to reduce their environmental impact can only be a good thing.”

So far, 24 businesses in the South Hams have signed up to the project.
