Barrow will get a PlayZone through a Football Foundation scheme

A town is calling for residents to share their experience of accessing sport in the area as it develops plans for a new outdoor pitch.

Barrow will be getting a PlayZone - an outdoor mini pitch for football and other sports - through a scheme by the Football Foundation.

Westmorland and Furness Council is asking for views on what should be included in the project.

The survey asks what physical activity people enjoy, if they have access to those where they live and what the facilities are like.

It comes after the authority secured the PlayZone, which it said aimed to tackle "inequalities in physical activity" and provide access to a high-quality community facility.

The pitch will be floodlit and people will be able to book it using an app.

The Football Foundation's programme is backed by investment from the Premier League, the FA and Sport England.

Councillor Virginia Taylor, cabinet member for sustainable communities, said: "This new PlayZone facility will be a great asset to the town, but it’s vital that we work closely with our communities to ensure we develop a facility which is fit for purpose."

The survey is open until 7 June and people can fill it in online, external on the council's website.
