Nurse cycling 1,000km around Taiwan for charity

A Jersey nurse is planning to cycle at least 1,000km around Taiwan to celebrate her 35 years of nursing, while raising funds for the charity she is employed by.
Gilly Glendewar is a Tissue Viability Clinical Nurse Specialist at Jersey's Family Nursing and Home Care, a charity which offers medical assistance to people in their own homes.
She is taking on the challenge with her husband Lloyd in October - this year marks her 35 years as a nurse and their 35th wedding anniversary.
Mrs Glendewar said while she was starting to get nervous about the cycle, she hoped to raise awareness and funds about the important work the charity does.
Jersey's Family Nursing and Home Care, external is one of the oldest charities in the island.
It offers care in people's homes, in schools and in community clinics, with the ethos of helping islanders to start well, live well and age well.
Mrs Glendewar said she loved her role at the charity and wouldn't change it for the world.
'Greatly appreciated'
"Donations would be greatly appreciated, but please just follow the organisation and be aware of what we do," she said.
"It's not part of the Government of Jersey, it's a separate charity, we need to fundraise so the more people that understand about us the better."
The couple are due to set off on 27 October and plan to cover about 50km a day during their 30 days in Taiwan.
"We thought for a while for doing another cycling holiday and we thought that we might as well kill two birds with one stone," Mrs Glendewar said.
"It's a big distance and it will be good to raise awareness for family nursing whilst im off having fun."
