Three walkers and dog rescued off fell

Three walkers and their dog have been rescued from the fourth highest peak in England.

The group were "unable and ill-equipped" to navigate themselves down Ill Crag in the Lake District after a long day out, Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team (WMRT) said after it was called at about 22:25 BST on Thursday.

The dog was "also struggling", it added.

After talking to the group on the phone, the team decided to meet them on the fell help guide them down the Scafell Massif.

The team found the group at about 03:00 BST and helped guide them to safety over the next five hours.

The entire rescue took close to 10 hours, WMRT said.
